Calgary’s Sled Island festival music picks: Round two

Allow us to present round two of our must-see music picks for Calgary, Alberta’s Sled Island festival, taking place June 18-22.

Rocket from the Crypt

Before we take even one step further, let’s start at the top of the heap. Back on Halloween of 2005, the quintessential rock and roll band, Rocket from the Crypt, decided to play what would be their final show in almost 10 years. When news spread last summer that the guitar- and horn-fueled six-piece from San Diego, CA were getting back together to do some European shows and select North American festival dates, a certain Rice and Bread Magazine music editor started salivating like Pavlov’s dogs over the prospect of seeing Rocket from the Crypt in the flesh again. The two times that I was lucky enough to see them during their heyday in the ’90s are still among the best shows I have ever been to. Hell, I’d go all the way to Calgary, AB just to see these guys.
