Now that we’re in the throngs of the eighth annual Sled Island Festival in Calgary, Alberta, the amount of really good bands from this city is settling in. After seeing screechy four-piece Hagface and raw punkers Crystal Mess last night, it’s already becoming apparent how much raw talent there is in Cowtown.
Now Scion Sessions has announced they’ll be releasing a Sled Island collectible 7-inch record later in the summer that will be available for free in select “culturally iconic” locations throughout Calgary. (We’re thinking Sloth Records and Tubby Dog are shoe-ins, but we’re also casting a vote for the incomparable Boogie’s Burgers).
The limited-edition 7-inch features four Calgary bands: garage-punks Fist City, the electro-pop of Mark Mills, house producer Dominic Pierce and indie rockers Lab Coast, so, as you can see, it’s an eclectic mix that represents the Albertan city’s music scene honourably.
If you’re in Calgary tonight (June 19), all four artist will be playing a free showcase at The Palomino (109 7th Ave. SW).
And if you just can’t wait for that 7-inch or, worse yet, can’t get to Calgary this summer, go ahead and stream it up above, thanks to the folks at Scion Sessions.
