What do you do if you’re a music festival organizer and a main headliner cancels at the last minute? Well, if you’re the Sled Island Festival and you have one of the best songwriters in Canada in the general vicinity, you give Joel Plaskett a call.
That’s exactly what happened on Friday, June 20 when it was announced early in the day that Sled Island headliner Neko Case needed to cancel her appearance that night due to travel problems. Plaskett, who was already playing a club show for the same festival that night, was called upon by organizers to play the mainstage.
How did he do? Excellently.
Check out the exclusive footage above, shot by the Rice and Bread team, of Plaskett and his Emergency playing one of their classic songs, “Through & Through & Through.” It was just one song in a performance that, for those that were lucky enough to be attendance, won’t soon be forgotten.
