For any normal band, the above headline would just be embarrassing, even on the slowest of music-news days, but for Winnipeg political punk/thrashers Propagandhi video footage of them playing with their new guitarist makes us downright giddy.
Playing “A Speculative Fiction” from their now-classic 2005 album, Potemkin City Limits, the band is joined by recently announced second guitarist Suylnn Hago. A Tampa, Florida musician and guitar teacher, Hago will relieve guitarist Dave “The Beave” Guillas for the band’s live shows and possibly for future recordings (Guillas’ status with the band is unknown while he adjusts to a new full-time job).
Hago is well-equipped to play with Propagandhi, as seen in the footage, having been quoted as being influenced by the band throughout her formative years and playing in musically similar projects in Tampa, such as New Bruises, Feral Babies, Ink & Sweat and Career.
And if there were any doubters out there about how Hago would fit in, watch her flawlessly shred through the not-even-close-to-easy progressive punk song, and even jump in with some wicked impromptu background vocals.
We have a winner!
