The Week: Home-brewing w/ Harris, Japanese liquor, food album covers, Ska Fest

On July 12, 2014

We’ll start at the end of the week this time, because we’re wacky like that.

The Week ended with Blake Morneau’s in-depth Conversation with west coast hip-hop champion Josh Martinez and Ben Filipkowski’s live review of Queens of the Stone Age‘s headliner-worthy performance at Ottawa Bluesfest.

Thursday saw a look at Palms/ex-Isis drummer Aaron Harris’ home-brewing efforts, as well as his opinions on craft beer. We also let new contributor Dave Williams run wild with his top 10 food-related album covers.

On Wednesday, Japan-based contributor Sean O’Leary led us through the strange and wonderful world of Japanese shochu liquors and Unsane/The Cutthroats 9 guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer reviewed San Francisco’s Tadich Grill.

Earlier in the week we brought you our monthly Album Club feature, this time a hot-and-cold look at Andrew Jackson Jihad’s latest album, Christmas Island; a premiere track from ska-punks Eli Whitney & the Sound Machine; a Death Row Dinner with Alex Estrada of Silver Snakes; and a Live Review of Victoria’s 15th annual Ska Fest; among other things.

Next week is shaping up to be even more delicious and musical, so stay tuned.
