Carlin Brown, drummer of Philadelphia melodic punk band Restorations and executive chef at the Philly location of Barcade, says his last meal would be an old standby. Brown’s not the first guy to request macaroni and cheese for his Death Row Dinner, although this time it’s not the shells variety that Pentimento drummer Mike Hansen asked for. Instead, it’s Brown’s own taco mac and cheese concoction, or maybe just a tray of chorizo mac and cheese and then surrender into the sweet abyss.
Brown: My final meal would definitely be some kind of tacos and burrito, and macaroni and cheese.
The best of both worlds?
Yeah. I’d probably put the mac and cheese on the tacos.
And that would be enough to make you happy before your final breath? Because you can have anything you want. You can add anything else to the pile.
Embarrassingly enough, macaroni and cheese has always been my favourite food on the planet [laughs].
So just a heaping tray of mac and cheese until you burst?
Even just that, yeah. Just some chorizo mac and cheese and then call it a day, I’m fine. Maybe some pickled jalapenos [laughs].
Nice. Anything to drink, or maybe some dessert?
Yeah, I really, really, really like super dry Spanish cava. So definitely a bottle of cava.
What about something sweet to top it all off?
I’m really not a sweets person. I get made fun of a lot for this, when someone’s like, “You want cake,” and I’m like, “I don’t like cake,” and they’re like, “How can you not like cake?” and I say, “Because I don’t like cake!” I like cheesecake, I like certain kinds of pie, things like that, but I like savoury desserts. I don’t really like cookies, but I love cookie dough, so I’m very strange. Everything’s textural, so I’m a strange little creature.
So either a big mound of cookie dough or… just more macaroni and cheese?
I’m going more macaroni and cheese [laughs].
