We asked Deacon Batchelor, drummer for Phoenix-based folk-punk band Andrew Jackson Jihad, what he’d pick for his very last meal. And, no, it wasn’t the traditional Mexican food from where he lives.
Batchelor: Chicago deep-dish pizza. I just love it. Pizza is my death row or desert island food. And deep-dish pizza is pizza on a whole other level, especially if you get it from a nice pizzeria in Chicago and they really take the sauce and the cheese aspects seriously.
So, no matter where you were sitting on death row, you’d have to have the pizza flown in from Chicago?
Yeah, it would definitely have to be from Chicago. And it would leave a nice mess for them to clean up when I’m done.
And you could go out happy on a Chicago deep dish?
Oh yeah.
Would you eat the whole thing?
I would eat the entire thing.
What size?
The biggest one they got. And just pepperoni and sausage, that’s all I need.
Andrew Jackson Jihad‘s Christmas Island is out now on SideOneDummy Records.
