Death Row Dinner 0

The Smalls singer Mike Caldwell keeps it plain and tasty

Old eating habits die hard: The Smalls in 1996.

The Smalls recently reformed for a Canadian reunion tour, so we thought now would be a prudent time to ask singer Mike Caldwell what his final meal would be. Caldwell went for something plain, but very awesome.

So you’re on Death Row and you’ve gotta choose your final meal…
Caldwell: Well, I usually eat pretty simply. When I eat, I usually just eat one thing at a time, unless someone else is preparing the meal for me. But if I’m just choosing my own food, I’ll eat one vegetable and eat until I’m full of that. Or I’ll just eat cereal or something. So I just eat pretty simply, for the most part.

Okay then, they can only bring you three separate items for your final meal, so what would those be? They can do a big plate of one thing, then a big plate of the next thing…
[Laughs] Yeah, well, I like sweet stuff, so I would probably choose ice cream, for sure. And I might choose pancakes or waffles…

Or both. It’s your last meal, man, just go for it.
And for the last thing, I don’t know, I’m not sure what would go along with that… That’s probably what I would choose.

Big plate of waffles, big plate of pancakes, big bowl of ice cream… And you could go out happy on that?
Yep, that would do it for me [laughs].
