Well, the long-awaited new Poison Idea album,Confuse & Conquer, is finally here, and guess what, kids? It’s a stone-cold killer.
We christened the Portland punk institution’s 1990 album Feel the Darkness one of our most criminally underrated punk albums, so obviously the release of Confuse & Conquer on Southern Lord Recordings was something that the team over here at Rice and Bread was anxiously awaiting (okay, mostly Jason).
The band’s first album since the 2006 passing of legendary guitarist Pig Champion (real name: Tom Roberts), Confuse & Conquer is 10 blazing, metallic punk/hardcore rippers in that patented sneer that only Poison Idea can pull off.
Singer Jerry A., a recent interview subject over here at Rice and Bread, is fully on point on the album; spitting his always intriguing lyrics with punk aplomb that blows away most hard music frontmen 20 years his junior.
With a little studio help from producer Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust), and the return of a couple of old members,Confuse & Conquer is one of those comeback albums that actually sticks.
