Mike IX Williams, screamer of sludge metallers Eyehategod, takes us on a very quick trip through the New Orleans, Louisiana food scene.
Mike: All of the guys in the band are really tight friends, so we go to each other’s barbecues and we go out to eat together.
Do you have a favourite place that you like to go eat together in New Orleans?
Oh, have you ever been to New Orleans?
No.
There’s a million places that are awesome to eat at. The food down here is super fattening, so much seafood; there’s so much good food here. They have roast beef Po’ Boys, they call them that, and they are French bread with stuff on it. There’s soft shell crabs. Catfish. People have crawfish boils here all the time. I live out here on [Housecore Records owner/former Pantera singer] Philip [Anselmo]’s property. I live inside Nosferatu’s Lair [the name Anselmo gave his home], actually. I live upstairs, so there’s always something going on with bands coming over to record or film videos, and that’s a good reason to get drunk and eat food. That’s what New Orleans is like. If there’s not a reason to get drunk and eat food, we’ll make one up.
