Covering Canadian prog-punk legends Nomeansno is akin to a classic rock band trying to cover Rush: not advised and often disastrous.
What if you’re a punk band from Florida and one of your favourite bands happens to be Nomeansno? Well, you start playing around with their songs a little, add a few of their tunes to your live set here and there… then, someone from Fest asks you to do a cover set, so you immediately choose Nomeansno, and you proceed to knock that shit out of the stratosphere (trust me, I was there).
So, what’s the next step? Actually record a Nomeansno song? Document this big-balled musical choice for all to hear? Get Rice and Bread to debut the song and no fucks given? Sure, let’s do this!
Clink the link above to hear Florida’s Nothing in the Dark covering Nomeansno’s “I’ve Got a Gun,” from the British Columbia-based three-piece’s 1995 album The Worldhood of the World (As Such).
Just kicking ass!
