Although they weren’t mentioned in Mike Seale’s recent Five under-appreciated DC hardcore bands, we know on good authority that Seale is also a huge Soul Side fan. So he, for one, will be stoked to hear that Dischord Records will be re-releasing two of the seminal DC emo-core band’s early recordings in September on vinyl and digital formats.
Featuring singer Bobby Sullivan, guitarist Scott McCloud, drummer Alexis Fleisig and bassist Chris Thomson (later replaced by Johnny Temple), Soul Side released two albums and two EPs during the mid-to-late ’80s. Members went on to other bands such as Rain Like the Sound of Trains, Girls Against Boys, and Obits.
Combining the band’s eight-song EP, Trigger, with their three-song single, Bass 103, both of which have been out of print on vinyl since the early ’90s, the re-release has been remastered by TJ Lipple and features updated artwork by graphic designer/musician Jason Farrell (Bluetip, Sweetbelly Freakdown, Red Hare, etc.).
